About Daniel

More than a title — how I got here, and how I work.

I am a senior frontend engineer with a bias toward systems: design systems, platform patterns, and the unglamorous architecture that lets a product keep shipping after the first team outgrows the first codebase.

My path into this work was not a CS degree. I studied sociology at UC Santa Cruz, then went through Codify Academy in 2015–16. That outsider start still shows up in how I think — I care a lot about whether an interface is usable, whether a component API is teachable, and whether the people around me can move faster because of the work I leave behind.

At Cisco I was one of five frontend engineers on Tetration, an internal startup that grew into Secure Workload. I built data-heavy dashboards and a Sass architecture that a much larger org later inherited. At Tailored Brands I work at staff-level scope: owning frontend architecture, leading three engineers, and keeping high-traffic retail surfaces fast and coherent.

Outside work I ship personal products because I like holding the whole stack — brand, checkout, content, ops. Deadpoint Club is a climbing lifestyle shop. Pollo Papí is an Oakland fried-chicken brand with a waitlist, merch, and a truck calendar. Those are not “demo repos.” They are live things I run.

Day to day I am fluent with Cursor and Claude. AI-native engineering is part of how I architect and review, not a slogan on a résumé. I still write the Sass myself.
